Thinking about heading out on the trails for some social distancing?

Although regulations at this stage are preventing us from running together, we hope you are enjoying your outdoor activities, then sharing your experience with your community via social media channels.

With many trying to escape the built-up areas like the coastal paths we wanted to make choosing where to run easier. Below we have pulled together a table of the local trail runs which are currently accessible to the public.

We have also added a list of our favourite equipment we personally like to take out on the trails. All products are available in-store or online.

Gear recommendations
– long and short distance

Trail Running Shoes:

Our main goal here at the Running Company Sunshine Coast is to get you in a suitable and comfortable shoe allowing you to take on terrain you've got you eyes set on.

When fitting a trail shoe we like to make sure the shoe is suitable for your foot shape, comfortable and suits the terrain you indent to be running on.

With plenty of trial shoe brands in-store, pop through to try some on, feel the difference between brands and take them for a test run.

Our trail shoes are also available to purchase online.

Running Vest:

Spending a long day out on the trails or clocking up the miles along the coastal roads, a running vest is your perfect accessory.

It’s a personal choice on vests, comfort is important, and the vest needs to tick all your boxes. Meaning, it needs to be able to hold enough water to suit your distance, nutritional needs, wind jacket, safety essentials like mobile phone etc.

Salomon Advanced Skin 12

Unisex capacity – 12 L

Ultimate Direction Mountain Vesta/Vest

Men’s capacity – 13.7 L

Ladies capacity – 12.7

Flipbelt:

Perfect way to hold your phone, keys, money and nutrition whilst you are on the go.

Petzl Headlamp:

Kids and work require is to run in the dark at some stage, or maybe you just like the peace and quiet of the early morning/ late nights.

We’ve got a selection of Petzl headlamps that are suitable for any terrain. The greater the lumen the greater visibility you will have. Generally, the more lumened headlamps will have a brightness option which can help conserve battery.

Ultimate Direction Handheld Flasks

If you are happy to carry something in your hand the handheld flasks are a great choice for carrying water or electrolytes along with your phone, keys and some nutrition if need be. Ideal for shorter runs or when the warmer weather is around.

Nutrition

Nutrition is a real personal choice and is very much trial and error to see what works and settles in your stomach the best. A few popular options are below:

Tailwind: Energy and electrolytes in one easy powder. Mix in a bottle with water and you are ready to go. Contains dextrose (the clean glucose, the fuel that powers muscles and essential organs) which minimises digestive effort avoiding stomach discomfort during activities.

Maurten: have harnessed hydrogel technology to develop carbohydrate-rich and natural sports drinks and energy gels that our bodies can tolerate.

Koda Electrolytes, Gels and Bars: The KODA Electrolyte Tablet allows you to customise your hydration to suit your needs and alter the volume of fluid you require based on the weather conditions. The gel and bars offer energy top up whilst out running over a longer period of time.

Socks

Feetures: High Performance socks are superior to conventional socks because of their seamless toe, moisture wicking fibers and snug fit. This snug, supportive fit eliminates movement to prevent blisters.

Injini Trail Toe Socks: These trail socks are durable with a thick cushioned foot bed whilst providing excellent moisture management, preventing blisters.

We do also stock Women’s specific toe socks with the only different being the length of the toes are smaller to prevent excess material at the end of your shoe.

Steigen: One of our lightest and thinnest socks in-store with the combination of Lycra and Microfibre Nylon creating a quick-drying effect, preventing moisture from being withheld inside the foot.

Another accessory we highly recommend is anti chaffing balm. A very small investment for a comfortable and chafe free run.

We, alongside the rest of the running community would love to hear what essentials you use, what are your top picks when running on the trials? Feel free to share your accessories and experience in the comments below.

Stay safe, healthy and run happy,
Brad + Team.
